Perfect Paws is mostly a family owned and operated business with a handful of long-term full-time, part-time and, as needed staff members. Thomas Vasquez is the Owner/Operator in tandem with the Managing Partner Aaron Behnke. Support Staff include some relatives and long-term friends all assigned to and fulfill specific roles in the organization.

After completing his grooming and animal husbandry education at the New York School of Dog Grooming, Tom began home grooming while pursuing his baccalaureate degree in Public Health at Brooklyn College. Throughout his education he worked in area hospitals and veterinary clinics and became a certified veterinary Technician in1987. He accepted an offer to become an instructor at the New York School of Dog Grooming 1988. He held this position for a number of years all the while building a clientele through his home grooming. The demand to open a salon grew steadfast and his personal relocation to Park Slope positioned him in immediate demand. In 1995 Perfect Paws opened its doors at 226 Atlantic Avenue, perfectly nestled between his most frequent customers from Park Slope, Carroll Gardens and Brooklyn Heights. Within the first few years Perfect Paws outgrew that location and without room to expand, it was relocated to 276 Atlantic Avenue.

In 2001, in an effort to best accommodate his new addition to his family, a baby Mastiff, Tom relocated to Brooklyn Heights across from the largest dog run in all the 5 boroughs. Seeking to simplify his life, he also relocated the business to the neighborhood. Perfect Paws is in its eighth year in the Heights and only continues to grow with the development of DUMBO and One Brooklyn Bridge.
